Hill College Men’s Soccer Team begins 2018-19 season

The Hill College men’s soccer team is gearing up for the 2018-19 season. The men’s team completed their preseason training with two scrimmages against Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) and Texas Wesleyan University last week. In the SAGU game the men came away with an 8-1 win and a 6-0 win against Texas Wesleyan University. In total, there were 14 goals scored by 10 different players. The men look to continue this good rhythm into the game against nationally ranked Richland College a perennial power in the NJCAA.

“This year’s group has potential to be something special with 22 freshmen from all over Texas and a few key returning players, it resembles the formula that has worked for us in the past such as in 2014, 2015 and 2016 in which we were at the NJCAA National Championship tournament. The culture within the group has been positive and hopefully we carry the momentum into the long season ahead,” said Head Coach Paul Davenport. Davenport is in his eighth season as the head coach of the Hill College men's and women's soccer programs. Since joining the Hill College Soccer program, Davenport has established Hill Soccer as a regional and nationally respected program. In the past six years Hill College soccer has achieved numerous program firsts and school records including seven combined Region V titles, two District titles and three consecutive trips to the NJCAA National Championship tournament. 

The Rebels will play eight home games and eight away games this season. All home games will be played at The Depot at Cleburne Station, 1906 Brazzle Blvd., Cleburne, TX 76033. Admission is $5 per person, and free to Hill College faculty, staff and students with Hill College ID. 

NJCAA Region 5, which Hill College is a part of, will be hosting the Region 5 men’s and women’s soccer tournaments at The Depot Oct. 25 and 27. The following weekend, starting Nov. 1-3, the District tournaments will also be held at The Depot. This will include the Region 5 Champion, Region 2 Champion and Region 6 Champion along with the Region 6 Runner-up, with the District Champion qualifying for the NJCAA National Championship Tournament.
